Like all good art forms, pizza's versatility knows no bounds. When I want to bury my troubles in a deliciously delirious pizza-induced coma, I choose Zachary's Chicago Pizza. With three locations in the East Bay, Zachary's built its legendary reputation on a deep-dish Chicago style "stuffed" pie.

With three locations in the East Bay, Zachary's built its legendary reputation on a deep-dish Chicago style "stuffed" pie, a formidable three inches seemingly engineered by evil geniuses to exploit humanity's weakness for dough, cheese, and sauce. The result is almost more casserole than a pizza — the irresistible comfort food of the heartland meets the fresh ingredients and culinary creativity of the Bay Area.

Pair yours with a pint or two of microbrew and let the hubbub of this always-packed, employee-owned pizza house lull you into happy, cheesy submission. I dined at the Berkeley location.
