NIAD ARTISTS for 2011 |
All of us at Zachary's are delighted to feature the work of three artists and a teacher from the NIAD Art Center in Richmond.
The winning art entries of NIAD artists Mia Brown, Angela Rogers, Billy White and NIAD teacher Lauren Ari are currently displayed at our Solano Avenue, Berkeley location. Lauren Ari is a multiple winner of Zachary's Art Contest and loyal customer. We hope you appreciate the abundant talent of these artists as much as we do! |

Mia Brown
Mia Brown is a gestural painter who slashes each canvas in a rhythm of color. She’s not shy about layering paint with gusto to produce vibrant work that jumps off the wall.
Her skills are even more remarkable when considering she paints with a brush attached to her helmet. You might think this limits her creativity, but Mia will prove you wrong with a smile.

Angela Rogers
Angela Rogers has a wicked sense of humor, infectious smile and wonderful fashion sense. Her favorite colors are red, pink and purple, which consistently appear in her quilts, pillows, drawings and paintings.
Angela concentrates on one piece at a time, that typically takes several weeks to complete. Fish, hearts and portraits of friends are her preferred subject matter.

Arstanda “Billy” White
Arstanda White is always poised with a pen and paper drawing everywhere he goes, ready to make an impression of the world he encounters. He is a natural storyteller and weaves each tale into the artwork he creates, which he says form in his head while he is drawing.
He is often working on several pieces at one time, and spins a separate tale for each one. The characters in White’s narratives range from people in his daily routine to icons including Van Gogh.

She has been awarded several residencies and scholarships, and has published work in The Washington Post, Tikkun and other periodicals.
Karin Breuer, Curator of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts writes, “Lauren Ari’s colorful tableaux are whimsical, strange and engrossing studies of a structured reality.”
Lauren is teaching at NAID and is thrilled to be in the company of such amazing artists who constantly teach her more than she could possibly imagine!
