I first heard about Zachary’s Pizza through friends who also mentioned the awesome annual poster contest, which they had won in the past with an entry featuring their two adorable poodles. Soon after, I tasted the deep-dish yumminess for the first time.
My recent art contest entry had the full support of my sixth grade students at Windrush School who know Harry because he is a school dog and visits regularly; his paws fit nicely into our animal welfare themed service-learning program.
I first saw Harry in 2002, while working briefly at the East Bay SPCA in Oakland. It was love at first sight. When he easily learned four tricks in fifteen minutes I thought I might have a star on my hands…
The day I adopted him, the shelter manager remarked, “That one – he’s got a lot of personality!” I promised her I would capitalize on this and raise money for homeless animals. My dreams: if my little mutt could be nationally recognized and synonymous with the cause, if people bought Harry merchandise, if he could sit next to Oprah for an interview– how much money could we raise?
I keep this dog busy! Harry has just joined www.TherapyPets.org and visits nursing homes and hospitals. So far, this work has been just as rewarding as it has been to simply draw or photograph him.
I can’t resist his graphic charm, and am currently working on a children’s book, as well as other art and video projects. If you are interested, please visit: www.harryslife.com

NOTE: On Harry's website you'll see that over a quarter million people have seen the short video of Harry's famous sneeze trick. Also, it was featured on TV on THE TODAY SHOW last June.
